Chloe Stroll has dropped a new track, ‘I Stood My Ground’, ahead of her debut album Bloom in the Break, due to be released on the 12th September. It’s a powerful, slow-burn anthem about staying true to yourself when everything else is falling apart.
The track was co-written with Walter Afanasieff (yep, the Mariah Carey/Celine Dion one) and pulls no punches. Stroll says it came from conversations about feeling ignored, or like your values are getting chipped away. “When you’re standing up against a wall,” she says, “we’ve all been there.”
It follows ‘You’re OK’, a stripped-back acoustic track that quietly blew-up earlier this year and shows just how sharp her writing is.
She wrote over 70 songs before narrowing things down to 12. The result is shaping up to be a deeply personal, genre-blurring debut, with guests like Swagg R’Celious (H.E.R., Babyface) and Kevin Bard (Andy Grammer).
The album title came from an image she had: something beautiful blooming through broken glass. Which kind of says it all.
